About the Role
The Web Development Specialist is responsible for building, managing, and maintaining high-quality websites. This includes developing custom websites (usually on WordPress, but sometimes alternative CMSs), launching them, maintaining them, ensuring site security, and optimizing website performance. You will collaborate with designers, strategists, and other specialists to create seamless web experiences that align with client goals.
This role requires a deep understanding of development, strong technical problem-solving skills, and the ability to work efficiently across multiple client projects. In addition, this role is the in-house expert for all things web development, and will regularly collaborate (via Slack and Zoom meetings) with both internal stakeholders and clients. As such, communication skills and timeliness are critical.

Responsibilities
Development & Website Management
- Develop clean, well-structured code using PHP, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Build custom WordPress websites from scratch (often using Elementor)
- Implement Advanced Custom Fields (ACF), custom post types, taxonomy structures, and custom plugins to enhance functionality.
- Conduct regular security checks, troubleshoot issues, and resolve broken elements to maintain site integrity.
- Optimize site performance for speed, SEO, and usability across devices.
Communication & Collaboration
- Support internal stakeholders as the development expert to help with technical questions or know-how.
- Serve as the development resource on client calls, supporting the account managers as technical needs or questions pop up.
- Provide assistance to junior developers as needed.
UX & Design Collaboration
- Ensure websites follow user experience (UX) best practices for optimal navigation and engagement.
- Work closely with designers to translate Figma and Adobe assets (Photoshop, Illustrator) into functional websites.
- Maintain brand consistency and accessibility across all projects.
Deliverable Management
- Work on multiple website projects simultaneously, as outlined by project managers
- Collaborate within a remote project management environment (ClickUp, Slack, etc. tools).
- Clearly communicate technical decisions, timelines, and potential challenges to stakeholders.
Continuous Improvement & Learning
- Stay updated on development advancements, security best practices, and industry trends.
- Experiment with new development tools, frameworks, and automation techniques to enhance workflow.
- Regularly review and refine internal development processes for efficiency and scalability.
Success Metrics
In this role, you’ll be accountable for the following key performance indicators:
- Utilization Rate: Ensure your time is fully utilized (at least 75% of 40 hours each week).
